Anglo American Meeting
On April 15th Alaska Native leaders from Bristol Bay will attend Anglo American’s annual meeting in London to voice their opposition to Pebble mine. The delegation has requested a meeting with Anglo American CEO, Cynthia Carroll.
An overwhelming majority of local Alaskans oppose the massive open-pit copper and gold mine because of concerns that it would destroy traditional subsistence ways of life that depend on wild salmon. Pebble mine, which would be built in the headwaters of major salmon-spawning rivers that feed Bristol Bay, would destroy prime spawning habitat for the bay’s sockeye fishery, the largest of its kind in the world.
